Emilio Martínez, Españar and Val de Boides got the prizes for the Best Sparkling Cider, Best Mixed Cider and Best Natural Cider, respectively.
THE CIDER.- On the 28th of June there was in the Fair Place of Mieres del Camín the XII Presentation of the Harvest and the VII Edition of the Hall DOP Cider of Asturies. A meeting to which attended the cider mills under this brand as well as politicians, restaurant owners, industrials and media. There was also the awards that this organization gives annually, expected with much attention.
The Prize for the Best Sparkling Cider 2016 was for Emilio Martínez. The Company Martínez Sopeña Hermanos is the maker and got also the same prize in 2015. It was given to Francisco Sopeña. The next award, for the Best Mixed Cider, was for Españar, also from the company Martínez Sopeña Hermanos. Roberto Sopeña was given this award.
Val de Boides, by Llagar Castañón, was the cider that got for second chance the award for the Best Natural Cider. Julián Castañón got this recognition. There was also a recognition for the Apple Producer Pedro Quirós Corujo and the football player Enrique Castro González “Quini”, named ambassador of the Cider of Asturies 2016.
The event begun at 11:30 in the morning and was presented by Joaquín Pajarón with the participation of Celestino Cortina Villar, president of the Regulatory Council, José Luis Almeida, president of Otea; the Mayor of Mieres, Aníbal José Vázquez; and the Councilwoman of Rural Development and Natural Resources, María Jesús Álvarez.
