83 of the 230 ciders that have been submitted to the competition have achieved some recognition for their quality.
LA SIDRA.- Yesterday at El Duque Restaurant, the awards ceremony for the XII International Hall of Gala Ciders (SISGA/IHGC) 2022 took place. A total of 71 cider mills participated with 230 ciders from 21 different countries, which have achieved 13 Premium scores with their products, in recognition of the best in each category, 14 gold, 15 silver and 28 bronze.
The jury for the SISGA Awards is composed by a team appointed by the Fundación Asturies XXI -as the organising entity- chaired by the renowned expert Manuel G. Busto, and a representative of each of the cider producers participating in the event, this being that it is the only contest scored by this system, which guarantees the equanimity of the jury, as all cider mills are equally represented. In addition, to eliminate the possibility that a jury in the blind tasting recognizes a certain cider and values it much higher or lower than it deserves for personal reasons, the highest and lowest scores for each cider are not taken on account.
The Asturian cider mills have achieved a total of 17 awards, three ‘Premium’, four gold. four silvers and six bronzes, being Sidra Riestra, with two Premium -Guzman Cider and Guzman Riestra Brut Nature- and one bronze, the most awarded cider mill in Asturies. The other Premium has been for the Casería San Juan del Obispo cider mill in Sieru, with its Salvador del Obispo cider Auguardiente.
The awards have been delivered at a ‘Gala Brunch’ at El Duque Restaurant, in which several ciders presented at the contest have been paired with various gastronomic proposals by the chef Pedro Duque.
