Asturian cider mills won three of the 14 PREMIUM awards granted by the International Hall of Gala Ciders,
Yesterday the prestigious SISGA Awards were distributed. This prizes are internationally recognized for their high standards and strict impartiality, which gives them a special relevance in the cider environment.
The Asturian cider mills had good scores, with 11 awards and three of the 14 Premium awards that recognize them as the best ciders in their categories.
The presentation of the SISGA ’24 Awards took place yesterday morning during the Gala Brunch, held at the Finca El Duque Restaurant.
The international prestige of these awards, to which 228 products from more than one hundred cider makers around the world have applied, is mainly due to its jury system, in which each attending cider mill provides a member, completed with a presiding table of experts chosen by the Asturies XXI Foundation.
The scoring system grants a bronze to those products that score between 60 and 69 points in the jury’s evaluations, silver to those between 70 and 85 points and gold to the ciders that exceed 85 points, then choosing the best cider in each category to receive the coveted Premium recognition.
The jury, which met last Friday September 27th, decided to award a total of 20 golds, 41 silvers and 14 bronzes, giving also 14 premiums that recognize the best ciders in each category.
Asturies won a total of eleven awards, includint three Premiums, one gold and seven silvers. As a novelty this year, a special award was given to the best SISGA Cider Mill, which was received by Jaanihanso Cider Press, from Estonia, in consideration of the points achieved, the variety of its products and the presentation of its stand.
The ceremony closed with the appointment of two new SISGA ambassadors in the world, Maris and Dace Plume, from Latvia. With them, there are now six countries with representatives spreading the SISGA philosophy of cider commitment: Portugal, Japan, Czech Republic, France, Basque Country and now Latvia.
