The University of Uviéu and the PDO Regulatory Council today signed their creation
THE CIDER.- The rector of the University of Uviéu, Santiago García Granda, and the president of the Regulatory Council of the PDO Cider of Asturies, Celestino Cortina Villar, have signed this morning the creation of the Chair of the Cider of Asturies for research dissemination and training in cultivation, the environment or the cider culture, among other aspects. Also present at the event were the Vice President of the Regulatory Council of the PDO Sidra de Asturies, Belén García and the Professor of History and Socio-Cultural Analysis of the University of Oviedo, Luis Benito García Álvarez.
The agreement between both institutions is born with a vocation of public service and with the aim of promoting the study in the field of cider production and consumption, its socioeconomic impact or the customary and cultural implications related to it. Among other aspects, the chair will promote research on apple cultivation, the properties of cider, the environment, history and cider culture, as well as its market, profitability and relationship with tourism and gastronomy.
