Next year Nava will hold its first Homemade Cider Contest, though artisan beer is getting more disciples.
LA SIDRA.- 2018 will be the year in which the first homemade cider contest will take place.
In the words of its mayor, Juan Cañal, he does not understand why the municipality, with a great cider tradition, does not have is own contest, the same way as Villaviciosa and other towns. Nava and cider are synonims and, this way, it must have its own cider contest.
The announcement was made in the presentation of a course on homemade cidermaking, history and technology which the Club de Amigos de la Manzana (Apple Friends Club) will teach in the Cider Museum. José Riestra, club treasurer, and Avelino Fuentes, as lecturer, atended this presentation. The registration for the course, which will take place on 25th November, will be enrolled next week.
On the other hand, Severino Suárez, chemist from Bimenes, has started the artisan beer making in some premises near the Cider Museum. It is located in the cidermills route, by river Viao, in the former La Flor bakery facilities, later El Toro by Celso García.
