The next edition of the FIL (Interceltic Festival of Lorient/An Oriant), the 54th, will be held from August 1 to 10 next year and the protagonists will be Celts from the American diaspora: Acadia, Quebec, Louisiana and several others.
This 2024 has been a difficult year due to the limitations of the interference of the Olympic Games but next year the festival returns to its natural course both in terms of calendar and format.
The diaspora will be the protagonist, that is, the cultures of Celtic origin from the old continent (especially Scotland, Brittany, France and Ireland) that migrated to the American continent and apart from integrating had maintained their roots and their references, from the language, the cider, the gastronomy and of course the music. These examples would be the American cousins of the European Celts: Acadia, Louisiana, Quebec, New Brunswick, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Boston and New York.
They are all from the east coast of America, logically where they settled from their countries of origin, being the immigrants who became the pioneers in new lands to make a living. For many years now, Lorient has welcomed diasporas, the last being the year dedicated to Acadia (2012 edition) and Australia (2015 edition) and now stickers with next year’s design are already available at distribution, information and merchandising points.
