El Gaitero was awarded as best DOP (Certificate of Origin) Cider of Asturias and Hermanos Martínez as best plantation.
LA SIDRA.- Born in Pentanes, Bedriñana, Elías Carneado Medio was crowned as “apple master” for the fourth time in the exhibitors contest, thanks to its cider and eating apples.
His son, Jose Luis, showed satisfied with the prize and considered that it was mainly due to their about 25-year-old orchads, from which they presented five varieties of eating apples and twelve types of cider apples.
The winner in the Certificate of Origin Cider of Asturias category was El Gaitero and Martínez Sopeña Hermanos, from San Justo, was awarded as the best plantation. The runner-up prizes were handed in to Francisco Foncueva, overall cider apple; Carmen Lozano, eating apple; Hermanos Martínez, from Gijón, Certificate of Origin Cider of Asturias apple; Igor Ferreras, best apple in Villaviciosa; and Francisco García, best eco-friendly apple.
