The price of the bottle already ranges between 2’90€ and 3’40€.
LA SIDRA.- New year, new price. That is the opinion of some cider bar owners who, with the new year, have decided to increase the price of the cider bottle.
The Association of Tourism and Catering Industry (OTEA) supports the rise by referring to the law of supply and demand. That is why they mention the price rise in other products like coffee or wine.
Though what really hurts Asturian people is the price of cider. Because cidermills have not increase the price and last year’s harvest excess seems not to justify the rise.
However, bar owners claim that cider has a very low price, being the profit margin much lower than in other products, and that in other places like Madrid or the Basque Country, the bottle of cider cost almost the double.
On the other hand, it should also be taken into account the way cider is served, as in the case of professional pourers the price rise is more justified than in the case of the use of gadgets, like electrical pourers or plastic caps.
The aim from OTEA is to dignify a product so traditional and unique and give it the value it deserves. In that sense, it does not seem excessive to pay 2’90€ for a regular bottle and 3’40€ for a DOP Cider of Asturias.
