The contest consisted of 16 categories and Asturies won five ‘Premium’ distinctions
LA SIDRA.- Last Sunday the awards ceremony of the 11th International Hall of Gala Ciders 2021 took place. A total of 73 cider mills with more than 230 ciders from countries such as the United States, France, Porgtugal, Germany, Chile, the Czech Republic, Norway, Poland, Latvia, Italy, Peru, participated among others.
The ‘Premium’ recognition was awarded to the cider in each category that obtained the highest score of all of its type. Three other types of distinctions by category were also awarded: gold, silver and bronze based on the score achieved.
Every year new varieties of cider are added to the market, in such a way that currently, the SISGA Awards recognizes 16 categories.
Of these, five Asturian cider mills have obtained ‘Premium’ awards. The Panizales from Mieres cider won the Premium for dry cup Cider with its Ati cider, Valverán 20 Manzanas by Masaveu Bodgas from Sariego obtained the Premium in the Ice Cider category, the Casería San Juan del Obispo de Siero cider mill won the Premium cider brandy for its product Salvador del Obispo, Pomar Rosée by Viuda d’Angelón from Nava won the Rose Cider Premium and Ramos del Valle Brut Nature obtained the Premium for the Brut Nature Sparkling Cider category.
The awards were presented at a ‘Gala Brunch’ at the Amares Gastronomy Restaurant of the NH hotel in Xixón, in which several ciders presented at the event were harmonized with different gastronomic proposals by chefs José Ramón Otero and Alejandro Fernández. Of course always complying with the current sanitary protocol.
The international jury for this edition was made up of the president of the tribunal Manuel G. Busto; the expert Joaquín Fernández; the CIFP professor of Hostelry and Tourism of Asturies Juan Luis García; the member of the Club Sierense de la Manzana, Marta Roldán; the Portuguese importer Jaime Felipe Barros; and the members of national and international places: Abraham Goldman-Armstrong from Norway, Benito Peciña from the Basque Country, Luis Raviña from Tenerife, Christian Stolte from Scotland, Andrea Bonfatti from Italy, Liliana Nóbrega from Portugal, Marc Lhommeau from France, René Galindo from Chile, Joseph Barfield from Portugal and Daniele Porporato from Italy.
