LA SIDRA.- Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular natural health products, used by people all around the world. Although some experts may consider them unreal, these are the most common benefits associated to it:
Diabetes: the main vinegar component is acetic acid, which can help lower blood sugar levels and blocks the starch absorption.
Weight loss: combined with a healthy diet and exercise it might reduce body mass index and triglyceride levels.
Teeth whitening: though some people promote rinsing your mouth with apple cider vinegar, experts consider it is not a good idea, as acid can remove the teeth protective coating and cause cavities.
Skin and hair: it helps mosquito bites itching, relieves sunburn and reduces dandruff, but it is no use to get rid of lice.
All-purpose cleaner: it is often suggested as a natural cleanser for the home. The acid is effective against mold, but it will not cut grease: oil and vinegar quickly separate (think of a simple salad dressing), so it will not be enough to feel germ-free.
Food preservatives: it has been used for centuries to preserve from pickles to meat, and a food wash to reduce bacteria on the surface of fruit and vegetables.
Cough and sore throat: mixed with other ingredients such as salt or honey, it might decrease pain and irritation. But if you suffer from aesophagus or stomach problem, it could make it worse.
Heart disease: its antioxidant properties could be some benefit for heart health, but the best way to avoid heart disease is to exercise and have a low-fat diet.
