Snakebite: a mixture of beer and cider

The beer cider hybrid is rather popular in the United Kingdom.

LA SIDRA.- Snakebite is simply when you mix equal parts cider and lager or stout. If it has a dash of blackcurrant added it is called Snakebite and Black.

In 2013, Gavin and Peter Stuart from Thistly Cross Cider joined Tempest Brewing Co. to produce UK’s first commercial Snakebite and Black. It was made by fermenting beer, then refermenting it with cider, and finally a third time with local berries.

In 2015 they decided to revamp the old recipe by adding Saison yeast to get a new flavour and so Saison Cider was born.

Now, urban cidery London Hawkes launches a new co-fermented beer and cider hybrid called Graff which will be available for the first time on 22nd February.

It will be presented in kegs and 330 ml. cans and it is described as having an aroma of crusty bread with a mouthful which evokes continental beer and the sweetness of pure apple juice.
